About Eddie Schwartz

Eddie Schwartz is a Canadian born songwriter, producer, recording artist and music rights advocate. Over a career that spans more than five decades, his work has comprised more than 200 songs recorded by renowned artists, a string of international hits and pre-streaming-era physical sales well in excess of 65 million units worldwide.

He is a Member of the Order of Canada and of the Canadian songwriters’ Hall of Fame, a winner of numerous JUNO and BMI awards, and a recent recipient of SOCAN’s prestigious Cultural Achievement award. As a champion for creators’ rights, Eddie is also the past president of the Paris-based International Council of Music Creators and of the independent songwriter and composer alliance, Music Creators North America.

Responding to the growing interest in his back catalog, Eddie recently began work on a suite of new material including the recently released singles, “Outbound Train”, “Waters Rise” and “We Win”.

ARTIST

Eddie released his self-titled debut album in 1980 on A&M and followed this with three other albums and a stream of hit singles. “All Our Tomorrows” reached #28 in the US before being covered by Joe Cocker while “Special Girl” hit the top-20 in Canada ahead of its cover by both America and Meatloaf.

SONGWRITER

His songs have been recorded by Pat Benatar, Paul Carrack, the Doobie Brothers, Joe Cocker, Carly Simon, Robert Palmer, America, Donna Summer, Rita Coolidge, Rascal Flatts, Gowan, Mountain and others. He has won multiple JUNO, BMI, and SOCAN awards, and PROCAN’s prestigious Harold Moon award.

PRODUCER

He has enjoyed success with numerous projects, including the Doobie Brothers’ “Cycles” album, Paul Carrack’s “Groove Approved”, Rita Coolidge’s “Fire Me Back”, as well as producing his own recordings. His worldwide physical sales were well in excess of 65 million units even before the download/streaming era began.

ADVOCATE

He is past president of the International Council of Music Creators (CIAM) and he Songwriters Association of Canada (SAC), and president of Music Creators North America (MCNA). Eddie is a board member of Fair Trade Music International (FTMI) and served six terms on the SOCAN board. In 2012, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.
